I'm Your American Flag

Written by Kelli Cajigas

I'm a symbol to many.
Nicknames, I've a few...
Grand Ol' Flag, Old Glory,
the Red, White, and Blue.

My red stripes remind us
of blood that was split,
protecting this country,
our forefathers built.

My white strings mean honor,
and spirit and grace;
for which we shuld strive
with the whole human race.

Brilliant white stars
on a field of bright blue--
one for each state
that has sworn to be true.

Proudly I've flown
and given my best,
but now comes the time
I finally must rest.

For my colors are faded,
I'm tattered and torn;
and it's honor you'll show
when you place me to burn.

Of my ashes I ask
that you each take a part--
the better to help
hold this night in your heart.

While she is reciting, Girl Scouts 3 and 4 begin folding flag and place reverently on fire. Girl Scout 5 then recites final verse.
